Charles Pennington M.D., in a black coat and white waistcoat and cravat, has his left arm leaning on a table with a quill and ink; there is crimson drapery background on porcelain; it is signed and dated on reverse 'Charles Pennington M.D. painted by W. Corden Novr, 1822'; the porcelain is marked J Rose & C Coalport; it has gilt composition and a rectangular frame.
