![]() French Old Paris Faience Cup & Saucer, 19th Century
item # DARA03JW
It has a Sevres or Vincennes mark for 1753. However, the cup and saucer is more likely produced by a Paris company such as Samson, or the equivalent, sometime during the 19th century, perhaps circa 1850.
The saucer is 5” by 1”, and has an indentation for the cup. The cup is 2 ½” high by 2 7/8” wide. The cup and saucer are made of soft-paste porcelain or faience, not hard-paste porcelain, and is heavier than hard paste porcelain. The handle is molded separately from the cup, and attached using a slip type of process. The gold appears to be a double application, then fired twice at low heats, and polished with a stone. The design is of scattered roses and rose buds, surrounded by gilt or gold scrolls, similar to German Meissen. It is all hand painted.
