An enchanting antique European, possibly Austrian, sterling silver mounted compote or centerpiece - an exquisite white overlay, cut-to-clear, glass bowl enhanced with gilt accents, elegantly supported on a floral & scrolling foliate engraved silver pedestal base. The base is stamped with the French 'ET' import mark in use from 1864 to 1893 and maker's mark, initials 'MD'. Condition is very good to excellent, only light signs of usage, and the old felt lining on the weighted base is worn away in a few areas.
