![]() Limoges Plate Created by Master Porcelain Artist Edward Challinor
item # ROC80JW
This is a century old antique hand painted Limoges Plate which was created by master porcelain artist Edward Challinor, of the Pickard Art Studio in Chicago, at the Turn-of the-Century. Inspired by stylized Art Nouveau Era poppy motifs, this splendid Challinor masterpiece resembles a meticulous work of handmade crewel at first glance. It is a very unusual vintage china painting with a palette of turquoise blues, yellows, pinks, mint greens against a soft butter cream background wash. Please note the elegant turquoise and Roman gold scroll work combination along the edge of the plate. Prominently signed on the front: 'E. CHALLINOR'. Challinor's biography and many important examples of his c.1900 artwork are on display in the 'Collectors Encyclopedia of Pickard China' written by Alan B. Reed, originally published in 1995.
