![]() Limoges Amethyst Blue Violets Plate
item # ROC70JW
This elegantly designed hand painted plate was created during the Art Nouveau Period. Skillfully hand painted by the famous E.W. Donath Art Studio of Chicago. This century-old Donath treasure is lavishly decorated with an unusual Roman gold archway motif suggestive perhaps of an ancient Chinese bridge around which is entwined a trail of amethyst blue violets. The golden archway is overlaid with fine black filigree hand work. Each violet petal and each green leaf is carefully outlined with gold, as are veins of each leaf. A great deal of design time, painting time and intricate detailing went into this imaginative creation signed by its artist 'Rene', who is a 'listed artist' (J. Rene) on page 256 in 'The Encyclopedia of Pickard China' by Alan B. Reed. E.W. Donath Art Studio was one of the very fine professional porcelain art studios in Chicago during the early 1900s.
