![]() Limoges Fine Art Plate by W. A. Donath Chicago Art Studio Early 1900s
item # ROC61JW
Antique hand painted Limoges Fine Art Plate, circa 1900, completely hand painted by the highly acclaimed W.A. DONATH ART STUDIO of Chicago, during the very early 1900s. Donath's beautiful works of art upon vintage European porcelain were legendary and comparable in artistry and quality to the artwork produced by the W.A. PICKARD ART STUDIO, also of Chicago, during this period. Much more about both of these famous American Chicago Art Studios of the early 20th Century may be found in a book written by Alan B. Reed entitled: 'Collectors Encyclopedia of Pickard China'. This particular plate is hand painted in the CONVENTIONAL ART STYLE, which was generally symmetrical in layout, as opposed to the 'Naturalistic Art Style' which was more naturally flowing and free-form. Both of these styles can be quite beautiful, and this masterfully painted plate is one such example of how beautiful the Conventional Art Style can be, which became very popular among porcelain artists, especially during the1905-1915 period in America. Many examples of this 'conventional' style of artistry were seen in issues of KERAMIC STUDIO publications during those years, which was published by one of the leading artists and teachers of that time: Adelaide Alsop Robineau.
