![]() Victorian Roses & Burnished Gold Limoges Tea Set, Circa 1895-1905
item # ROC51JW
This is a jewel-like Roses Teapot and a most elegant accompanying gilded tea tray, completely hand painted with ruby red baby roses. The tall handled teapot is also completely hand painted with soft yellow and ruby roses, and is signed underneath in gold lettering by American Victorian period china painter, or Edwardian Era porcelain artist: GRACE D. KERR.
While we are often drawn to rounded and voluptuous curves in the porcelain molds we collect, we find these two more angular pieces visually unique and extremely attractive, the square shape of the tray complementing the sharp angles of the teapot's handles beautifully. The gold work on each is extraordinary, the tray being decorated in beautiful crosshatch raised gold paste, and the teapot done in lovely detailed burgundy line work delicately edging its coin gold accents. The groups of roses on both tray and teapot are very sweet and superbly painted in shades of mauve, pink, white and burgundy. This is a dramatic pairing of two strikingly handsome pieces, and lends a soft yet masculine touch to any display location. Both pieces are in excellent condition, with Coin Gold work intact, and with the century-old china paintings beautifully well preserved with lustrous glass over glaze finishes.
