![]() Nell's Ribbons of Amethyst Violets Limoge Plate
item # ROC45JW
A delightful, beautifully composed Art Nouveau Period Floral, which has been hand painted upon an antique Limoges Decorative Art Plate, circa 1900, completely hand painted and signed by a talented American Victorian or Edwardian Era china painter who left her signature on back as: 'NELL'. This has been painted in the 'conventional' art style which was popular during this early period of American china painting, and which featured and promoted by such art publications of the time such as: KERAMIC STUDIO, published by artist and educator Adelaide Alsop Robineau.
Curlicues of violet stems twine around this lovely piece, edged in Roman or Coin gold. A peach tone border frames the plate and is outlined with happy ringlets of stems that connect bunches of royal purple violets, as if in a Victorian maypole dance streaming with ribbons. The symmetry of this plate is softened by the sweet abandon of curls of stems and bunches of blossoms, and by its restful color palette, giving it a very old fashioned and homey feel. A very pretty and feminine addition to a 'conventional' style or floral collection.
Excellent overall condition, but with some very minor 'loving wear' to the gold which does not affect the astounding beauty of the artistry and unusual composition of this piece. The china painting is well preserved with a lustrous glass over glaze finish. © 2007 Rosenquist Collection
