![]() Pink and Lavender Clematis Antique Charger, Circa 1900s
item # ROC44JW
A superb and rare floral hand painting of pink & lavender clematis on an antique Limoges porcelain charger or plate. Artist signed: DURYS. Each clematis flower, each leaf and each gracefully trailing vine stem has been delicately outlined in gold on this very unusual vintage china painting. Hand painted clematis is a very rarely seen floral art subject matter for antique Limoges. This was very well done by artist Durys in his typical sweeping graceful style, rendered in a pastel palette of pale pinks, blues, and lavenders with varied soft shades of mint green foliage, all against a pale cream background. The center of each bloom is embellished with raised gold paste work, which adds elegance and gilded highlights to the painting. This is 100% hand painted by an independent porcelain artist, and is not the repetitive work of a French porcelain art studio, which is confirmed by the single factory under glaze mark on this plate, with no secondary decorating studio over glaze mark. A rare find.
Excellent condition. 9-1/2" diameter. This elegant hand painted French plate bears a crescent moon shaped mark in green aka Limoges France Mark # 4. PROVENANCE: A handwritten note attached to the back of this Century old plate indicates that it was originally discovered in Harmony, Pennsylvania. © 2007 Rosenquist Collection
