![]() Julia Wells Raised Gold Limoges French Roses Basket, Circa 1900
item # ROC20JW
Julia Wells was an 1893 founding member of the famous Atlan Ceramics Arts in Chicago.
Circa 1900 antique hand-painted Limoges Candy Basket or Brooch Pin Dish with Roman or Coin Gold handle, raised gold paste work, Pink & Yellow Tea Roses and raised enamel turquoise 'jewels', completely hand painted by extraordinarily skilled porcelain artist, who signed this work: 'WELLS'. Wells was an American Victorian period china painter. This lovely baby tea roses basket is perfect for use as a lady's vanity item, such as china jewel basket or pin dish for rings, necklaces, earrings or other jewelry items. It is painted with 19th Century Coin Gold upon the elegant handle and along the delicately scalloped edges of the rose bowl. Pink and yellow flowers are beautifully hand painted against a royal blue and butter cream background within the bowl of the basket, creating a cameo like effect against a swirl of powder blue and raised gold paste work in a 'scrolls and roses' motif, dotted with raised turquoise enamel 'jewels'. This basket is the perfect romantic addition to a lady's boudoir, or for use as a floral art display piece upon a tea or coffee table, or upon an occasional table in a living room, or perhaps in a feminine guest room. The outstanding china painting upon this heirloom piece has been perfectly preserved within its radiant glass over glaze finish.
Excellent condition.
