![]() Antique Samson-Meissen German Candle Holder Pair, Dog & Cat, 19th Century
item # AUT79JW
Beautiful German porcelain candlestick pair, 19th century Samson - Meissen (Samson items often made from older Meissen molds as fine quality reproductions in the late 1800s and widely recognized today as equal to or sometimes superior to the original Meissen pieces).
The mark is not among those in Meissen books, yet the porcelain & gilt ormolu boudoir candle holder pair are lovely antiques in their own right; exceptional hand painting with boy & girl and the rare addition of a dog & cat. Both bear the blue underglaze Meissen crossed swords (one is very faint but visible) with the additional marks as noted that would substantiate that these are 'after-market' Samson, most likely from old Meissen molds but with Samson glaze painters. Good-very good condition. There are repaired breaks to the male piece. Obviously dropped or knocked roughly, the breaks are in the boy's ankles and neck and also in the base of the rear floral pillar (that holds the candle socket). 6 7/8" total height; bases measure 3 7/8" x 3"
