This is a very decorative, as well as useable sterling silver letter stand. It was made by Black, Starr & Frost Late 19th Century, prior to their merger with Gorham. It has a highly decorative front with pierced & chased decoration, including the face of a cherub, and birds, with a blank cartouche which can be engraved if required. What is very unusual about this stand, and a sign of it's quality, is the fact that the rear part of the stand also has the same workmanship. A great desk item.
