![]() American Rococo Revival Rosewood Bedstead, Third Quarter 19th Century
item # 0403-753
Probably the bed was from the New Orleans warerooms of Prudent Mallard. The headboard has a floral-carved crest centering a broken-arch pediment with pierced scroll-carved insets, over an arched panel. The paneled siderails have generous headpost brackets; the wrap-around footboard has an arched panel. It was formerly a half-tester bed now reduced in height; the finials atop the posts may have formerly graced the tester.
Height 84 1/2", inside width 61", length 80", outside width 69 1/2", length 87". A documented Mallard half-tester bed with similar headposts is in the collection of the Louisiana State Museum.
