![]() Haviland Limoges 'Drop Rose' Plate, 1893-1930
item # 88898E
This is a rare Haviland Limoges roses plate. The pattern is called "Drop Rose" and is a Haviland classic. This plate is a medium pink rather than the lighter dusty pink and is harder to find. This piece is on a blank with a scalloped rim, covered with a double gold scrolling trim. Besides the double gold scroll on the rim, there is a complete golden ring of gold flowers just inside the white portion around the center. There is the famous rose dropping down from the rim falling across the gold ring. In the very center is a double bouquet of open cabbage roses on a bed of green leaves.
This piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or flakes and little if any wear to the gold and pattern. As with all items of antique china, there may be slight factory dot or glaze skip but nothing that detracts from the beauty or value of this plate. This plate measures approximately 8 1/4" across. The marks on the bottom of this piece are the over glazed decorating mark Haviland & Co followed by an oval with "MADE EXPRESSLY FOR J.E. CALDWELL & CO.in red. This is mark #13. The under-glaze mark is Haviland in an arc over France in green, it is mark #12 in The Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges. These marks date this piece from 1893 to 1930.
