This is a rare antique French gilded bronze ormolu 14 7/8" jardiniere or plant box; with four huge convex enamel sides; complete with scrolling grotesque style decoration in raised repousse. Thick, heavy cast bronze ormolu pillars are at each corner; large paw feet and gilded ormolu bands are on top & bottom framing the large enamel panels (enamel on iron or steel, possibly tin). There is a solid wood box under the enamel and ormolu so it's a strong, very well built old piece.
Excellent condition. Only one small enamel chip, lower right corner of a larger side panel. There is a slight scratch to the figure on one side also, but no cracking, crazing or other enamel loss or damage.
14 7/8" wide, 8 3/4" deep at large paw feet; 14 1/2" x 8 3/8" at the top, 7 7/8" tall.
