Royal Bayreuth Tapestry China is so named because of its rough finish similar in texture to needlepoint tapestry. This effect was obtained by the process of wrapping the article in coarse cloth, then baking. The cloth was consumed in the baking and the desired tapestry effect resulted. The beautiful floral decoration was added over the glaze.
This lovely Rose Tapestry hair pin or trinket box measures 4 inches x 1 1/2 inches tall.
The bottom of the box is marked with the blue Royal Bayreuth, Bavaria mark. There is a small gold number, 28, on the underside of the lid.
With the exception of a little wear to the gold trim, due to age, both the lid and jar in excellent condition without any damage or crazing.
