![]() Antique French Opaline Glass Charger, Serving Tray, White & Gold, 1820-1850
item # AUT46JW
The edge on this superb old charger is just amazing. How those old glass artisans were able to get such a perfectly even scallop and cutaway border as this one, and then also bevel it all on top and bottom of the nearly 1/4" thick hand laid old opaline is unbelievable. Large and perfect for a most spectacular wedding cake, perhaps, or for your petit fours or anything that's special.
Dates to as early as 1820, as late as about 1850. It was likely the underplate for a punchbowl set, though it came alone. This one is hick and heavy, and gilt edged. No chips, no cracks, no flaws that aren't natural to the hand blown/laid glass process. You'll see some tiny bubbles, but they're not flaws. The glass is semi-transparent. 10.5" diameter.
