Beautiful linen pillow sham with French whitework embroidery, circa about 1900-1920. This sham measures 16 by 21 inches, the hand embroidered French whitework has a trellis around the edges with lovely garden roses in great detail in the corners, the hand work is really beautiful. You can see the fine handwork with the sanding and dimensional work in this piece. The sham is stitched together using a treadle machine with French seams and 4 hand made buttonholes and thread covered buttons.
There are 2 small repairs (hand done) in the corner of the embroidery in 2 corners, an another darned repair along the edge. 2 brown specs are on the back; the sham is otherwise in very good condition. The linen is very fine, soft and of high quality as is the embroidery.
