![]() Rare Antique Hand Painted Roses German Coffee Pot
item # ROC62JW
Perhaps the most elegant coffee pot mold ever made, was this German 'C.Tielsch & Company' porcelain mold, which was later copied by two French Limoges companies, although the Limoges versions lacked the delicacy of detail which these earlier Bavarian molds had . This now very rare original 1880s design, with its long elephant trunk shaped spout, was produced by 'C.Tielsch & Co.' in Germany and, in our opinion, it was never quite equaled by any the French porcelain manufacturers for its intricate quality of detail. This particular example dates back to the 1890s and has been hand painted with white and ruby roses, against a delicate pastel background wash of colors which contain clouds of soft blue and cream with hints of blush pink throughout. The Roman gold work of the finial and handles provide an elegant contrast to the artist's soft pastel palette. Please note the raised-relief porcelain beads which embrace the thin waist of the pot which have also been hand painted with gold. The roses are rendered in the naturalistic floral art style so popular during the late 19th Century. This beautiful Victorian Coffee Pot is in excellent condition and stands 9 1/2" tall x 7" across. It bears the under glaze mark 'CT' in green below a spread eagle, which was the Bavarian pottery hallmark of 'C.Tielsch & Co.' , and also bears a GERMANY country of origin stamp which indicates this was imported into the United States after the year 1891, when 'Country of Origin' stamps were required on all porcelain imports.
